I saw in the paper last Thursday that there was an estate sale on Friday and Saturday…but for SOME unknown reason, it went right out of my mind….cue to Saturday….
I was meandering up a main road and I remembered the estate sale and it was on the street I was on….and then I saw it….and it was the gorgeous house of a precious friend of mine from high school….her parent’s house….my first thought was I hoped nothing had happened to her mother….and so I stopped.
Thankfully her mother is a wonderful gorgeous 81 year old who has simply moved to a smaller place….after the hugging and reminiscing about wonderful memories I began to look around….Carolyn told me that whatever I wanted would be cheaper….I picked up several silver pieces, small bowls, dishes, old flatware (which I love) and then I saw this tray…..
LOVE those handles!
It was HEAVY!!
It was pretty tarnished, but after dipping it in an aluminum roasting pan with hot water, salt and baking soda she was good as new…tho I do love tarnished…..
Wanna know how much I paid for it….it is sterling….
Guess….go ahead….guess…..
okay, I’ll tell you…
$10…..I was SO excited!!! And I think of sweet Carolyn every time I look at it….
I will share my other finds in another post…
Thank you for stopping by!!

ReplyDeleteYou DID score!! The tray is beautiful! I never heard of the method you used to clean it but it sounds less messy that using commercial tarnish remover. Do you mind letting me know what proportions of salt and baking soda you used?
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane

ReplyDeleteHi! I saw your comment on another blog that you are from Alabama and an Auburn fan...me too! I'm sure your friend was happy to see some of her mother's things to go to someone they knew and who would love them too.
ReplyDeleteI just love this tray. I am starting to put trays on surfaces around my house. They keep everything a little neater. This is a beauty. I polish my silver too...even though it's not "in" right now. I just can't handle the tarnish!
ReplyDeleteYou are one lucky girl! I love having a connection to a person with things in my house. That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love estate sales? I love the tray and it cleaned up great. Floral frogs are always a great purchase esp. when you get them cheap. Yes I would say you had a lucky day. I am a first time visitor, drop over to my blog I am having a giveaway in celebration of my 100th follower. Kathy
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable score! I love the tarnished silver look too, better than it all shined up and new looking. Can you believe I have never been to an estate sale? I want to go to one sometime. Thanks for your sweet comment.
