The “Heat”

I know that I have been missing in action for a couple of weeks, but I have been CRAZY swamped at work, and if you read my blog, you know that I practically practice law without a license!  Anyhoo, it has been a couple of weeks of deadlines and statutes running and all that sort of legal “stuff”.

And you also know that I LOVE my cats!  I have four…yes, I know, that is alot.  But I adore them!

When I got the first cat, Chloe, Seth was 5 and Cameron was 3.  We had had her for several months and one Sunday morning Seth and Cameron came running into my bedroom as I was getting ready for church and they were just wide eyed!  Mother, there is something wrong with Chloe!

I run down the hall and there she is…lying on the floor, rolling around and meowing really weird.  I start thinking, she has been poisoned, she is dying!  The I stop and study her….Oh no, I say.  I think she is in heat.

Seth looks at me and says, what is heat?  Well, it is something that happens to girl cats, but she will be fine.  We will have to get her an operation.

After Sunday School, I am heading to choir and Seth’s Sunday School teacher comes up to me.  We had prayer request this morning in Sunday School, she tells me.  Okaaaaay, I say.  Seth had a very important prayer request.  He did?  Yes.  He asked for prayer for his cat who has “the heat”.  We both just died laughing!  I will never forget that as long as I live.

Chloe did recover and is a ripe 13 years old.

I came home from work on Tuesday and I notice Bella is acting weird.

Bella 003

She was rolling around in the floor and kept sticking her rear in the air and she was crying…..Oh No……

Not my sweet Bella!

I picked her up and she just put her head on my shoulder and I explained to her the facts of life and that sometimes it really bites being a girl….

So I called the vet and made an appointment to have her spayed. This morning I dropped her off…I cried as I left her…she looked so scared.  I told her she would feel so much better…well…not initially, I mean, she will have an incision and stitches….but soon, she will feel better…

I almost chickened out and didn’t have her spayed.  She stays in the house and all of my other cats have been either spayed or neutered.  So, I looked it up on the internet to see how often cats go into heat.  If they don’t get pregnant, they go into heat EVERY TWO OR THREE WEEKS!!  I didn’t know that!  It also said that they were very uncomfortable when they are in heat.

Ya’ think???

So…I took her this morning, I have called to check on her.  She came through the surgery fine.  I can pick her up tomorrow morning…

I think I will take off half a day tomorrow….just so I can take car of her…

It ain’t easy being a girl…

  4. That is sooooooo funny. We reacted the same way with our first cat about 10 years ago. We thought she was dying too. I just wished our kitty was a lap cat. She was a stray and we kept her. She's really mean and doesn't like to be touched but still one of my best friends because she keeps all the mice away! She's the best mouse catchin' kitty I have ever seen.

  8. How well I remember with my girls! That crying which is like a pitiful moan. Poor Bella! I'm so glad it's over and that she gets to come home tomorrow. You're a good pet mom, Lou Cinda! And a good people mom, too!

That's a hoot about "the heat". LOL! Leave it to children to come up with a funny.

Once, I put my cat on the prayer list at church, and I didn't say he was a cat. And you know what? He was healed! And the vet called him his miracle cat. I told the minister about it years later, and he laughed and told his wife who is a big animal lover, too.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  9. When I was young and pretty (a long time ago) and freshly engaged (to my first husband), I met my fiancee's young nephew who later reported to his mother that I was real pretty but must be "fixed" because I didn't have any kids! :) That kid is a vet today!

  16. A cat lover myself, I hear you... but I always spayed and/or neutered once they reached the right age so that I, and they, didn't have to be uncomfortable. And you're so right, we girls have a harder time of life in the hormonal department!

  17. You should add this to my month long party Its So Very NOT QUITE RIGHT-I haven't talked about it a lot because I knew my blog would be moving soon and then I could get it going bit--it is all about funny stories. Kids are the best. The first one we had was hilarious I have not laughed so hard in a long time--you would enjoy reading it if you didn;t see it the first time. It starts off with the 1st post-in Jan what happens when you combine a 3 year old and a pair of scissors, then the next 2 days are hilarious stories from the gals.

ALSO YOU ARE ONE OF THE WINNERS last week, you need to go check out the winners post and contact the vendor and give her your address-she knows you are the winner.

MY BLOG MOVED this past weekend to my own site, itssoverycheri (dot) c o m when you go over you need to RE-Sign up to follow me.

  21. Hello Lou Cinda ~I wanted to stop by to reconnect. I've had a few absences from blogging and have lost touch with some of my friends.
Since winter landed on our doorstep...it provided us the motivation for a few indoor remodeling projects...in two homes! Which can be a bit daunting. So, I relish the breaks I get for blog visits.
This post is exactly what I needed. I laughed sooo hard, both my kitty and hubby ran in to see what all the commotion was about!
I'm happy your kitty made it through surgery and won't be ill with "the heat" any longer.

I hope you can stop by so we can reacquaint ourselves.

    Sweet wishes,
    Sara
