The “Heat”

I know that I have been missing in action for a couple of weeks, but I have been CRAZY swamped at work, and if you read my blog, you know that I practically practice law without a license!  Anyhoo, it has been a couple of weeks of deadlines and statutes running and all that sort of legal “stuff”.

And you also know that I LOVE my cats!  I have four…yes, I know, that is alot.  But I adore them!

When I got the first cat, Chloe, Seth was 5 and Cameron was 3.  We had had her for several months and one Sunday morning Seth and Cameron came running into my bedroom as I was getting ready for church and they were just wide eyed!  Mother, there is something wrong with Chloe!

I run down the hall and there she is…lying on the floor, rolling around and meowing really weird.  I start thinking, she has been poisoned, she is dying!  The I stop and study her….Oh no, I say.  I think she is in heat.

Seth looks at me and says, what is heat?  Well, it is something that happens to girl cats, but she will be fine.  We will have to get her an operation.

After Sunday School, I am heading to choir and Seth’s Sunday School teacher comes up to me.  We had prayer request this morning in Sunday School, she tells me.  Okaaaaay, I say.  Seth had a very important prayer request.  He did?  Yes.  He asked for prayer for his cat who has “the heat”.  We both just died laughing!  I will never forget that as long as I live.

Chloe did recover and is a ripe 13 years old.

I came home from work on Tuesday and I notice Bella is acting weird.

Bella 003

She was rolling around in the floor and kept sticking her rear in the air and she was crying…..Oh No……

Not my sweet Bella!

I picked her up and she just put her head on my shoulder and I explained to her the facts of life and that sometimes it really bites being a girl….

So I called the vet and made an appointment to have her spayed. This morning I dropped her off…I cried as I left her…she looked so scared.  I told her she would feel so much better…well…not initially, I mean, she will have an incision and stitches….but soon, she will feel better…

I almost chickened out and didn’t have her spayed.  She stays in the house and all of my other cats have been either spayed or neutered.  So, I looked it up on the internet to see how often cats go into heat.  If they don’t get pregnant, they go into heat EVERY TWO OR THREE WEEKS!!  I didn’t know that!  It also said that they were very uncomfortable when they are in heat.

Ya’ think???

So…I took her this morning, I have called to check on her.  She came through the surgery fine.  I can pick her up tomorrow morning…

I think I will take off half a day tomorrow….just so I can take car of her…

It ain’t easy being a girl…

  1. Aw, poor kitty :). Isn't being a fur baby mommy hard too? Hope she's feeling better soon!

  2. You say it ain't easy being a girl? or a cat?
You are way too busy girl, you gotta slow your little butt down and get back to the blog! I missed can't stay gone long like that again, ya hear me? ;)

  3. Ohhhhhhhhh Bless Bella's little heart. I was going to say it's time for another prayer request but she's come out with flying colors! I know you will be happy to have her back home.

I used to practice law wihtout a license too but got off that merry go round 10 years ago...all the guts, no glory! I feel your pain girlie...make sure to take time for YOU though when you can :)

  4. That is sooooooo funny. We reacted the same way with our first cat about 10 years ago. We thought she was dying too. I just wished our kitty was a lap cat. She was a stray and we kept her. She's really mean and doesn't like to be touched but still one of my best friends because she keeps all the mice away! She's the best mouse catchin' kitty I have ever seen.

  5. I hate that you have been so busy at work. Blogging is more fun...what ever are you thinking???? Maybe it will slow down soon.

Little Bella is so cute. I am glad that she is all fixed up! Ha!

    Happy Valentine's Day

  6. Oh girl I just spit coffee on my screen...oh too funny...out of the mouths os babes like they say...I hope Bella will be ok and your right it's not easy being a girl ha ha!! Hope you have a GREAT Valentine day with your honey...Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

  7. You are so isn't! Beautiful kitties. Especially your newest addition Bella. What a cute photo that is!

  8. How well I remember with my girls! That crying which is like a pitiful moan. Poor Bella! I'm so glad it's over and that she gets to come home tomorrow. You're a good pet mom, Lou Cinda! And a good people mom, too!

That's a hoot about "the heat". LOL! Leave it to children to come up with a funny.

Once, I put my cat on the prayer list at church, and I didn't say he was a cat. And you know what? He was healed! And the vet called him his miracle cat. I told the minister about it years later, and he laughed and told his wife who is a big animal lover, too.

    Sheila :-)

  9. When I was young and pretty (a long time ago) and freshly engaged (to my first husband), I met my fiancee's young nephew who later reported to his mother that I was real pretty but must be "fixed" because I didn't have any kids! :) That kid is a vet today!

  10. Every two or three weeks? Yikes!!

I'll never forget the time one of my Sunday School students asked what circumcision was.

  11. Wow! We must be living the same kind of life! lol That sounds exactly what has been going on around here! Too funny on the prayer about "heat"! lol I have missed visiting with all my bloggy good to hear from you! Thank you for the sweet comment and hope you have a wonderful Valentines Day!!!

  14. Love this post! I have never seen a cat in heat but I have a dog. Any our Cookie has been spayed for years...and that's all I'm going to say about that.

PS Sent you package Saturday, but it will probably be delayed because of holiday. Let me know when it comes. =0)) tomorrow.

  16. A cat lover myself, I hear you... but I always spayed and/or neutered once they reached the right age so that I, and they, didn't have to be uncomfortable. And you're so right, we girls have a harder time of life in the hormonal department!

  17. 20. Hi Lou Cinda,
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. I have missed your posts and was hoping that everything was OK.
I know it's almost a couple of weeks since you posted about your cat...hope she's feeling OK.

  21. Hello Lou Cinda ~I wanted to stop by to reconnect. I've had a few absences from blogging and have lost touch with some of my friends.
Since winter landed on our provided us the motivation for a few indoor remodeling two homes! Which can be a bit daunting. So, I relish the breaks I get for blog visits.
This post is exactly what I needed. I laughed sooo hard, both my kitty and hubby ran in to see what all the commotion was about!
I'm happy your kitty made it through surgery and won't be ill with "the heat" any longer.

I hope you can stop by so we can reacquaint ourselves.

    Sweet wishes,

  22. I love your kitty! Awww! So beautiful! I'm Meme from Screaming Meme...It is so nice to meet you...If you get a chance stop in and see me over @ Screaming Meme...

  23. Your babies are beautiful (Seth too!)

  24. My mama is a cat person too. She told me once...Women and Cats will do as they please. Men and Dogs should just relax and get used to it!
LOL she is so funny sometimes!
