To Paint or Not to Paint…

After the trauma of painting the kitchen cabinets, which I STILL love btw!!  I thought the white cabinets with the white countertops was a little too much…well…white.  SO I  spray painted a small section of my countertops….yes, I said spray paint…well, why not!  I mean we spray paint everything else, right?  And after all it is JUST laminate….so…I painted a section so I could “study” it and “use” it and see how it held up BEFORE I painted all of the countertops….

See it over there?  I have set things on it and wiped it over and over to see how it would “react”…it has done beautifully!  Seriously….no problems….Steve took the countertop completely OUT of the kitchen and I cleaned it really well to make sure there was no grease or dirt or anything and I just did a couple of light coats of a black satin spray paint….And can I say CHEAP??? LOL  With the cost of a few cans of spray paint I can change the whole look of my kitchen….

See that little black speck on my stove?  It is a chip!  A bowl fell out of my cabinet and hit the stove and CHIPPED it!  Made me sick…I am going to check at Lowes and see if they have touch up paint….that speck is driving me NUTS!!

What do you think??

Hope you have an AWESOME Labor Day Weekend!  I have plans to finish the countertops and Steve is going to begin working on a cover for our deck…I am excited about that…the cats will be THRILLED!!

Kisses :)

  1. They have touch up paint.. I bought some for my white bathtub when my husband dropped the toilet tank (yes you read that right) in the bathtub while fixing something... It works perfectly!!

  3. Hi Lou Cinda! Why, you silly one! Spray Paint? It looks great! The black really looks good with your kitchen and it's holding up well? I'm just amazed! You may have started a new trend in Blogland.
You have a great weekend too!

  4. OMGoodness! That looks great!! I could be tempted to just that. My hubby works at Lowes, and we joke that a very *large* portion of his paycheck goes right back to them. It's true.. love that place. Hope you find the touch-up paint - bet they have it! :) -Tammy

  8. I would hope it would hold up, because you know if you got spray paint on it by accident it would be on there for life! I like the black, and I like the white. But I'm not looking at it every day. I think the black makes for a nice contrast against the cabinets and with the black hardware. Would you have to seal the top then? Probably, right?

  9. I think you've started something new, Lou Cinda!! The counter top looks awesome!! And for that chip on your stove, there is such a thing as appliance paint. I've never used it but I had a bottle of bleach leak onto my washer and that is what I was told to use. Good luck!! And have a Happy Labor Day yourself! Can't wait to see the deck cover!

  10. There have been a lot of people in blog land that have spray painted their counter tops but I think they all put a sealant on them. You may want to check into that. Otherwise they look fabulous!

  12. Nice kitchen. I didn't see the speck but I know how things like that can drive us crazy. I am slowly redoing some of my house in shabby chic white and I have gone gaga for roses. Need to repaint too. Lucky your hubby is gonna work on the deck, hard to get mine that motivated. Enjoyed visiting your blog.

  15. It's hard to tell only seeing a bit of the kitchen. It would scare me a little. Would it be crazy of me (and too much work) to suggest painting either the top or bottom cabinets a different color? Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will turn out lovely.

  16. I think it looks great, and that platter on your cabinet looks like the same one, in the same spot, that's in my kitchen.

  17. Spray paint ROCKS! Please let us know how this holds up because if it does I'm soooooo going to be a copy cat and get rid of our hideous pale gray laminate colored counter tops too!!!! I did a revamp on my cabinets a while back, they look fantastic but the counter tops are horrible.

Your kitchen is darling...good luck with all of this.

    Blessings,
    Shanna

  18. Lou Cinda, I did this at my last house. I put on three coats of sealer. Otherwise, it WILL chip off! Have fun, toots! Looks great.

  19. This is how I look at it -- when's the last time you tried to get spray paint off of your counter? Impossible! So yours should be good!
    I'm a follower now (I thought I already was.....)

  21. Wow! Never knew countertops could be spray painted. Yours look amazing. I had to seriously look for that chip you were talking about. But I know how those things can drive you nuts. Bravo for your guts to spray paint!

  22. Well, dang.... Isn't that just so darn clever! I would NEVER have thought of spray paint.... And, you're right, it's so inexpensive that it would be easy to touch up if you had any trouble. I have painted my kitchen island and given it three-four coats of Varathane.... I have to be careful... I've had to re-paint it three times already. Who knew that spray paint would hold up better? Brave chickie, that's who. I have laminate counter-tops too and have been planning/dreaming what to do with them. I'm not a granite kind of girlie....

Can't wait to see the whole thing all sprayed up.

    Huggies,
    Spencer
