Nevertheless, Steve and I head out Friday morning...
As we are perusing our first booth, Steve leans over and says"do you have any money? Well, no...not much cash! I have debit and checks, very little cash...so small detour to get cash then back at it!
This was actually an ice cream maker and it was churning it out all weekend long.
This was a box of neat door knobs! I love the glass ones, and wanted "some" to put in a bowl or lay in a silver tray...how much? $15.00 a piece! No thanks!
Booths like this were everywhere!
This looked like one of those big signs you used to see at service stations. Why would someone need this? I'm not sure.....but it is still there today.
I actually loved these architectural pieces, but they were $129 each! Out of my budget! Had to leave'em there...
Cammie Pie was checking out these tires. There were ALOT of tires at these yard sales.....
We stopped at the 4-way stop there and I looked to my right and I saw this...
LOVED IT!! The fabric laying there is my chair fabric in my den now. Steve could not believe I had a piece of it with me in the car, but he went and got it so we could see if it would match, blend, work....AND IT DID!! My best friend, Janice, is a decorator and she knows my taste very well! I sent her a photo of it and she liked it too! They were having a BIG sale! I have skills in negotiations, so I found the sales person and we started chatting about it. Seems that this sofa has been discontinued and it was originally $799 but I got it for $325.00!!

Now this was my den BEFORE! Dark, dark, dark, sofa.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that sofa!! Who knew you would have to go all the way to Dogtown to get it....lol! I love that place!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the prices were a little high along the trail. I guess everyone is trying to make a little extra these days!
I'm glad ya'll had a good time and found that fabulous couch!!
{{{HUGS}}}}
Robin :o)
I have to say, I love your couch. It's right up my alley for the cottage look i'm going for. Also, I love the glass knobs as well. I've been looking at our local jaunt for them but a bit pricey for me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find. I love it and the color and fabric is just perfect. You found a super bargain. What fun. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI would love to go to the 100 mile sale, but on a cooler day. Your new sofa is a keeper, and I agree the room looks so much nicer light and bright!
ReplyDeleteCathy
Lou Cinda!! I nearly screamed when I read you were at the huge garage sale...ME TOO!! Way up here in Michigan!! I heard it spanned 5 states but to think you and I were sweating it out on the same day!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the new couch! That is so my style too. And you got a great deal. I would be happy to spend $325.00 on one great thing than 50 small things...
We stopped at about 6 places but I already knew what I wanted from a trip to a place last week on the route, so I didn't spend miuch. And yes, it was a lot of weird stuff, car parts, fabric galore (I don't sew), 8 track cassette movies LOL!!!
I will be doing a post on our trek through Michigan in the 90 degree heat soon!!
xoxo
Jane
I bet you never thought you would come home with an awesome couch when you went! I absolutely love it...it looks great in your room. ;)
ReplyDeleteLou Cinda! Hallelujah! What a deal! The sofa is so lovely and how fantastic that it goes with your chair! I love it and I'm so proud for you! Shoot! Wish I could have gone to this 100 mile sale! Used to live in Alabama as a little girl, but I don't think they had garage sales way back then!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Go for junk and bring home some style...what a deal! Get out of town! I love it.
ReplyDeleteI really think I need that big old sign to wear on a chain around my neck...it so describes me to a T!
Debbie

ReplyDeleteI'm loving that couch, is it red, hard for me to tell. I am nuts over red....I just found your blog, and I love it...see u again....
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! I bet when you left home, you'd never thought you'd be bringing back a SOFA from a yard sale! It is perfect for your den!! You did good, no doubt about it. It is so cheery.
ReplyDeleteNow go...sit back and enjoy it...literally!!!!

I have always wanted to do the 100 mile yard sale! However, couldn't they have it during a cooler month of the year??? I sweat! I may get a bunch of Texas women and one California girl and join you next year! Love your new couch! That PURE sign was made for me! However, Lurch would say the sign represented PURE BS! :)
ReplyDeleteMalisa
I have always wanted to go to one of those and you did, you lucky girl! My favorite is the box of doorknobs!
ReplyDeleteHello, I was blog hopping and found you. Boy, what fun I have had reading your grasshopper stories. I actually cried I was laughing so hard(with you, not at you).
ReplyDeleteYou wrote about "walking through the fire". Did you write this? I printed it to stick on my mirror because it really has meaning for me. Thank you!!!!!
I have you blogrolled and will be looking foward to more of your adventures(hopefully not grasshopper related).

Wow, beautiful fabric on that sofa and it is amazing what it does to lighten your room - way to go, girl! Linda
ReplyDeleteLou Cinda, what a transformation going from dark to light made in that room! It kinda looks like a Hickory Hill sofa- who is the manufacturer? Gee, furniture lady, here... leave the job at work, Sue. Glad you found something that worked for you! hugs, Sue
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!!! Hey, I have had to change my website. I'm now at rrmama.net. I hope you will follow me there! Thanks for always being such a faithful commenter!
ReplyDeleteScore! Love the sofa. It's perfect in your LR.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting on my blog. As you see I don't spend much time there, I am busy reading about other people's more exciting adventures. :)
ReplyDeleteI was telling some co-workers about your grasshopper incidences and had them laughing too. They STILL don't get the whole bloggy thing, but I am sending them your link anyway.

I do love it. How did I miss this "100 mile yard sale"....no one told me!!!!!!! Girl I would have driven up there
ReplyDeleteI've been to Dogtown....My friend Sheila Aiken and her husband own the furniture store.......precious people...and another wonderful friend, Sheila's cousin, Charlotte, also works there....isn't it a humongous, wonderful, awesome furniture compex?
ReplyDeleteYour sofa is gorgeous....I'm so happy for you ...
I was at Sheila's home a few years back and part of the 100 mile yard sale was by the road in front of her home...
God bless...Betty
By the way, we are planning to be in Alabama this week and if so we will see Sheila and Charlotte and I'll tell them how pretty your sofa looks in your home...

Hey, Lou Cinda! I can't believe we were right in your neighborhood, ya'll were probably on your way somewhere else. Next time, we should meet up with you too. Love your sofa! That's really pretty & looks perfect in your house. I have bought something from Dogtown too, fun place to visit. We didn't have time to stop by there this time, but I love looking through their store.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a good time even if you didn't buy (like me!). I have never found anything there I had to have in all 3 times I've been to that sale. Guess you just have to go with an open mind. I just don't need much! It has to be really special to catch my eye.
Yes .. I do LOVE it!!!
ReplyDeleteyou did well
deena
I love your family room now*!!! Good find sista*!
ReplyDelete((hugs))) _Ashley*
I took out the misleading post. I was trying to point to Between Naps On The Porch, here is the right one for blondes:Lou and I like red and green
ReplyDeleteYou did great. My fave colors! Now please email me your home address. I have something for you that will be perfect in that room. As soon as I looked at the picture I went and got it out. Don't worry it's nothing orange and crazy like in my house. And enter my giveaway please, because you have followed my craziness from the get go and you still like me..really, you really do like me.
XOSue
Girl! If I had been there first, I would have been owning that sofa! Lou Cinda... it is SO neat! What a great buy. I congratulate you on your recon ability to spot that from a moving car. GREAT job!
ReplyDeleteOh, this makes my pulse race. I love a good deal on a shiny object... whether for me or for another bird. ;-)
Just wanted to let you know that I'm going to be gone for an extended time. There is so much going on in my life I don't know how I'm going to catch up. Right now, I'm taking a break from writing last minute recs for girls going off to college and out for rush. I had two calls in two days, and rush starts next week. YIKES! Anyhow, lots going on in the house front and with the family (Mr. Magpie's mother's BIG birthday is coming up) so I will be fooling with all of that. I'm going to try and check in from time to time because I miss you when I'm forced to be gone.
Sending lots of love your way...
XO,
Sheila :-)
That's awesome!!! The 100 mile yard sale scares me to death - but it looks like you handled it just fine!! Great finds!
