Dude, Your gonna miss that…

We had a little “incident” on the way to the beach a couple of weeks ago…

Let me preface this by saying that I am a terrible back seat driver!  Terrible!  And I know this….HOWEVER, I will also point out that Steve scares the heck out of me when he drives!  He has never had a wreck and for the life of me I don’t see how!!  I just feel like he is never really paying attention, looking ahead, being defensive.  I drive him CRAZY by pointing out everything I think he should know!

Moving on…

We left for the beach at about 6:00 a.m.  We go, I don’t know, half a block from our house, stop at the stop sign, and Steve pulls out in front of another car!  I said, well, we are getting off to a really good start here!

We go, I don’t know about a mile from our house, we are on the interstate….they are doing ALOT of road construction…ALOT!  Concrete barriers on one side, down to one lane….there is this BIG sign with arrows pointing to stay in the right lane, cos’ that left one?  It’s gonna end!  We were behind an 18 wheeler and I guess Steve felt that it would be a good time to “whip around” that SEMI!  So….whip he does….

Before I can say anything, which was really quick…those big orange barrels start closing off the left lane…which we are in by the way….with a SEMI on the other side of us!!!

Let me just say….I had an out of body experience in those few seconds!  Seriously…

The choices were…..hit the barrels OR hit the SEMI!  Which, I would also like to point out, was on MY side!  For reasons unknown, Steve chose to hit the barrels, (I guess he kinda likes me…sometimes).  Barrels go flying, he has gunned the car to get up and around said SEMI!  I cannot even tell you what I said!  I have no idea!  Truly!  Probably something like …

After the fact….as I sit there gripping my head in my hands and trying to process what just happened and what the left side of my car looked like…..Steve says ever so softly…

the mirror is gone….

SHUT UP!!  I snap my head around and look and sure enough, it is GONE!  I said, Well, that just looks AWFUL!!

Cameron and his friend Erin are in the backseat during this whole ordeal…they have said nothing!

Then we hear Cameron say…

Dude, you are gonna miss that…. (meaning the mirror)

Out of the mouths of babes…..

Attractive isn’t it?

I am talking jarred right out of there!  Wires hanging….Lord Have Mercy! It was a violent death…violent!

We take the next exit where I jump out of the car and run around to “peruse” the damage.  Orange streaks down the side of my white car…..I just look at Steve…I say nothing…I go in the store and get a Magic Eraser, because they ARE the bomb…and wipe the orange paint off my car…

But, not the mirror, the magic eraser cannot fix that…

Know what?

I DO miss it! I miss it terrible bad!

Cost of Repair?? $465.00

I ain’t even lyin’

It was a quiet trip to the beach after that…I don’t think I spoke for about 4 hours…..

Just for the record…I am a MUCH better driver….

Just sayin’

  1. LMBO!!!! I am sorry Lou Cinda, I know I should not laugh but the way you told it is hysterical. Especially loved the Magic Eraser! I am going to have to remember it works on cars too! I think you handled it quite well. I am not so sure I would have handled it that politely!

  2. Oh girl I live with a man that thinks were at the Indy 500 every time he gets behind the wheel...I did have to laugh...but I do feel you girl..Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

  3. I am so glad you all were not hurt!

  5. I'm glad that it was only a mirror:) I'm a backseat driver too!

  6. You described this so perfectly, I was actually holding my breath waiting to hear what happened. Wow. I am blessed with a guy that really drives well, but I still worry because it is 2 hours to the lakehouse each way every weekend and he drives on a crazy expressway to work everyday in his hot little sports car.

I am SO glad you are all right. Even if the mirror costs a are can't be replaced!

  7. Mmmm, mmmmmm! I'm with you! I have had more fights with my hubby over my comments to him when he is driving than anything else we could fight about. That's why I had those Flintstone brakes installed on my side of the car. This way I can put my foot through the floor board as if I'm stopping that puppy every time I think he's going to kill us! I can not believe a mirror repair costs $465.00. As Lou Cinda would say, "SHUT UP!" : ) So much for a relaxing day at the beach, huh?

  8. girl, I'm telling you I don't know what it is about this year but everyones vacay has been terrible!!!! Including my own! I'm glad no one was hurt!

  9. Oh my funny. Well, not the cost of the mirror or the event itself, but it is a funny story. Especially the, "dude, you're gonna miss that" line. Glad everyone is ok.

  10. First let me say that I'm glad you are all OK. That had to be one scary ride. A semi truck would not be fun to tangle with so I'm glad he went for the orange barrels. Your ability to tell a story is priceless. I felt like I was right in the car with you!
Hope you have a more relaxing weekend this weekend.

  11. I think I forgot to breathe! 'Course now I'm laughing so hard I can't.
Good to know that he loves you more than the mirror though.

  12. GURL, my chest was hurting just reading that! Did he forget that your car came with something called BRAKES???? Thank goodness you are OK, except for $500.00 less in your bank account!

  13. 465????? Yowza. I'm so glad you are safe and sound.

  14. Oh had me laughing the whole way thru! I am sure it wasn't funny then-I know because I married a man who went to the same driving school as yours!!

  15. Mama Mia! Oh, girl... I would not have been able to even get out of the car much less wipe it down with a magic eraser, but the adrenalin rush must have done it for you. YIKES! I'm glad it didn't scratch up the car. Funny thing, someone STOLE my mirror off my van. STOLE it. Sitting in the driveaway. Can you believe it??? Me thinks it is hanging around the neck of some punk. If I see him, he might just have seven years of bad luck when I throw a rock right at it. ;-)

    Sheila :-)

  16. Is it terrible to laugh at that? Cause I did. I understand completely, my husband drives for a living, and I'm not sure how. Glad you are all okay :)

  17. I feel your pain! Lurch scares the pee out of me when he is driving! Solution? YOU do all the driving! I feel like I'm driving Miss Daisy, but I am much safer! Just sayin'...

  18. I ride like you, so we solved a lot of crisis by me being the driver almost everywhere we go. I am too nervous of a rider, but much calmer that I used to be. I would have been a nervous wreck after all that. Glad you all were safe. Jackie

  19. I just found your blog and I had to laugh...I do the SAME thing. Us women and our backseat drivin! :) Love your blog...I am a follower now too! Oh, and I saw your newest little baby on the sidebar. We just got two of those early this summer. Gotta love em!

  20. I've been told I'm a back seat driver, what with all my little comments about late breaking, speed monitoring, tail-gating, etc. etc. I constantly grab the handle above the door for stability and I'm wearing out the carpet by slamming on the imaginary brake. Yikes, I'd rather be doing the driving! Holy moley- do ya think it's an age thing? LOL
    hugs, Sue

  21. Hi Lou Cinda! Oh, I know this is not supposed to be funny, but the way you've told it makes me smile a bit. But the most important thing is you all are okay! Whew!
Thanks for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia :)

  22. Hi Lou Cinda....This is the first time I have been to your blog and it was really enjoyable! You have a flare for writing! I have just become a follower. ~Hugs, Patti

  23. Oh this is funny but I'm glad you weren't hurt. My girlfriend is always telling her husband how to drive. My late husband drove for a living and so I know about male drivers.
I also know about my driving. I backed out of my daughters drive and didn't see the free standing basketball stand and took off my left mirror. Yes, I mised it until I had it replaced.
Oh, and that white thing in your mirror is called an actuator which is what moves the mirror. I use to make and assemble them for Honda.. I can put them together and put glass in..Wow

  24. Yikes, very funny in an oh thats dangerous kind of way.
So, next time will he be taking a hummer to the semi drag races...or maybe an armoured about the bat mobile...
My DH's name is steve too and you could have been describing some of my riding experiences.
I always tell him...its not a race!!! and remember the children are watching everything you do.

  25. You have no idea what kind of back seat driver I am... My son just got his permit and when he drives he always says "MOM, why are you holding onto the door handle?" and I always reply "because I am afraid, very afraid"...
Thanks for visiting me at my blog and taking the time to comment. Off to read more... good stuff!

  26. OK....I'm just sayin....THAT WAS FUNNY.......not funny when it happened, but the "retold after no one was hurt" funny!!!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog! It means so much to me and please come again :)
