Busy Busy!

We have been working in our yard for the past several weeks trying to grow grass where everyone told us grass would NOT grow!  That is one reason for the “limbing up” of the below tree which I have mentioned in a prior post.  We were trying to not only make it so you could actually SEE our house, but also so the sun could shine under this tree.

As you can see in the photo below the grass is growing in nicely!!  We have watered and watered and WATERED this grass and have been told that we will have to continue until at least August.  Hopefully by then their little roots will be deep enough to survive the hot humid summers we have here in the South

You can still see some of the wheat grass we covered the seed with to keep them in place.  I don’t have a before photo of this, but suffice to say there was NO grass here.  The prior owners had put pine straw under the tree over and over again to sort of mask the fact that there was no grass.  But I was determined to grow it!!

The front porch is shaping up.  The small rabbit on the left I got at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago and I spray painted it and planted some impatience in the little basket she was holding…

I have had the ficus tree for YEARS AND YEARS!!  I bring her in every winter and put her out every summer.  I seriously need to do some pruning on her, but I just let her be….

Those things are growing like wildfire and I predict before too much longer, the rabbit’s head will not be visible!

See the tall ugly skinny tree??  I don’t know what it is, but what I DO know is that I do NOT like it!  It is just plain old UGLY!!  I do not see one attractive thing about that tree.  SO ~ I had Steve yank it out…..

And I planted a hydrangea here instead!  My favorite flowers are hydrangeas!  These are pink and they are LOADED with buds!

  1. Your house looks adorable, and I love your red door and all the pretty plants on your porch. I'm proud of your grass, too. It's apparent that Jr. hasn't been within a hundred feet of it. ;-) Speaking of which, Mr. Magpie said he was amazed, Lucinda, that our yard looks so much better in the two weeks since N. has started working It's as if it KNOWS and is screaming, "YES!" I feel bad for Jr., but it went on waaaaaaaaaaay too long for sanity's sake.

GREAT job, and I love hydrangeas. We gave my MIL a pink one that is gorgeous. She managed not to kill it. Her mother had HUGE blue bushes that were prolific bearers. Grandmother had a green thumb. Wish I did!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  3. It's looking great, Lou Cinda! I LOVE your bunnies! I am going to have to redo my front beds once hubby is done with re-vinyl siding the house. It's enough as it is for me to run out and pick old vinyl off my hostas and sedums! I'm sure he'll kill it all!

  4. Your front porch is beautiful! I love your red front door and the look of it is so French to me the way the windows come down so low. I would love a front door like that. The whole porch is so welcoming. Cute bunny planter too. And I am a big fan of hydrangea's myself.

  5. Your yard and porch shows way more progress than mine. The only thing I have to show right now is blisters!

  8. Love your front porch and entry way. I don't know what that tree was either, but glad you replaced it with something much better. Love hydrangeas.

  13. Love everything about your house but the bunny holding the impatiens is my favorite. You are right, they will soon hide him completely. On the bright side, they'll look gorgeous!!

  14. Lou Cinda, Thank you for the sweet comment about Whit. We actually came home from Auburn and she decided to make paper flower corsages for all of her Zeta Sisters that will be at the wedding. So much fun crafting with her! I love your little rabbit and I totally agree with you about replacing "the shurb" with your hydrangea. LOVE IT!

  17. How beautiful Lou Cinda! Love that rabbit with the basket...how could they sell it? Your grass is looking wonderful...isn't it funny how hard it is to get grass to grow but weeds seem to flourish like crazy!
